Our inspector demanded we reach native soil and 12' later we hit bottom. The hole was then backfilled and compacted in 2' lifts to create a stable bed for our silo. It will be 12' wide and 23' tall housing a full 54K pounds of certified organic barley malt when full. Some of the best days on this project have been working with the heavy equipment. Troy from Jack's Digger Excavating let me try my hand during the backfill. It is harder than it looks. I think I need one of these for the brewery!
